Google Chrome 90 Added Copy Links To Highlighted Text Feature

Link To Your Highlighted Text

Last year Google launched a browser extension called Link to Text Fragment. Now, Google is introducing a new feature in Chrome 90 Browser that will allow users to create a link to a section of a website that they’ve highlighted. This latest Google Chrome 90 feature is still rolling out to users and works just as the browser extension did.

According to a blog post from Google product manager Kayce Hawkins: Visit a web page, highlight the text you want to create a link to, right-click, and select “copy link to highlight.” A URL ending in a pound sign (#) is generated, which you can then share with others. When they open the link, they’ll be sent to the specific highlighted section instead of the beginning of the page.

Copy Link to Highlight

With “Copy Link to Highlight”, you can share a URL for selected text highlighted for the recipient.

New Google Chrome 90 PDF Features

Google also added more features to make working with PDFs better: document properties, two-page view, and an updated top toolbar, which puts the most important PDF actions (zoom, jump to page, save, print, and more) within a single click. These new Google Chrome 90 features are rolling out now.

New PDF Features

Last but not least, Google is also going to soon launch tab freezing for collapsed groups. This means when groups are collapsed (and tabs are hidden), the tabs inside use less memory and CPU, making your computer quicker. And right now, I have 11 groups collapsed with 64 tabs inside, so that’s awesome. This feature is coming soon to beta.

Google said the “copy link to highlight” feature is already available on desktop and Android devices for some users. The Google Chrome 90 feature is “coming soon” to iOS, the company added.

Google Added New Features to Search Console Performance Reports

Google Search Console Introducing REGEX Filter and Revamped Comparison Mode

Google Search Console launching two new features including regular expression (regex) filters and a revamped comparison mode that will help to improve the efficiency of analyzing data in the performance reports.

Now, webmasters and site owners can use Search Console to filter data by regular expression (regex), as well as utilize a revamped comparison mode that supports more than one metric.

Find out more about these new features and how they can assist with data analysis in the Search Console Performance Reports.

REGEX Filters

Search Console Performance Reports now support REGEX (regular expressions) filters for page URLs and user queries. This will help you create the more complex query and page-based filters and answer more questions that interest them. Google explains how the addition of regex support allows site owners to capture more query data:

“For instance, let’s say your company is called ‘cats and dogs’ but is sometimes also abbreviated as ‘cats & dogs’ or even ‘c&d’. You can use a regex filter to capture all of your branded queries by defining the regex filter: cats and dogs|cats & dogs|c&d.”

REGEX Regular Expressions Filters

To use the new regex filter, create a query or page filter, select the dropdown menu, and select Custom. For further assistance with creating regex filters, visit the help center page.

Previously, Search Console didn’t support more complex cases, such as a query containing one out of a few optional strings. But now, users could filter queries and page URLs according to three patterns: containing a string, not containing a string, and exactly matching a string.

Revamped Comparison Mode

Site owners use the comparison mode in Search Console to answer comparison-based questions. Until now, the table wouldn’t contain a comparison column with a relative difference in percentage if more than one metric was selected.

The revamped comparison mode now supports cases where more than one metric is selected. An improvement to the interface nearly doubles the area available for the data table, making it easier to view results side-by-side.

Revamped Comparison ModeWhile comparison mode now allows more than one metric to be compared, only one filter at a time can be applied to those metrics. In addition, the comparison mode now supports the new regex filter for queries and pages.

These updates to Search Console are now available to all site owners.

Google Product Reviews Algorithm is Live in Search Results

Google Product Reviews Algorithm is designed to better reward such content.

Today Google launched a search ranking algorithm update which is designed to reward product reviews with well-researched, in-depth content over brief product summaries. Keep in mind that this new Google Google Product Reviews Update is not a core algorithm update that affects all search results. This update only targets product reviews and currently applies to English-language search results.

According to the given statement:

“Google Search is always working to show the most useful and helpful information possible, through testing, experimenting, and review processes. From this, we know people appreciate product reviews that share in-depth research, rather than thin content. That’s why we’re improving our ranking systems, which we call the product reviews update, that’s designed to better reward such content.”

Google Product Reviews Algorithm Update

If your website is not product-based and does not have any product reviews then you don’t need to worry about with regard to this Google Product Reviews update. But if your site has product reviews, so maybe you can see the fluctuations in daily traffic and rankings.

If you observe any sudden drop or rise in search traffic at or after April 8, so it is possible that a site was impacted by the product reviews update. Regardless of any changes in traffic, site owners should add an annotation to Google Analytics and other monitoring tools to indicate the product reviews update went live today.

What If Google Product Reviews Algorithm Update Impact Your Website?

The product reviews update focuses on providing users with content that offers insightful analysis and original research. With this update, Google Search aims to prioritize product reviews written by experts or enthusiasts who know the topic well. Site owners who believe they’ve been impacted by this Google Product Reviews Algorithm Update should look into provided guidelines on creating better content.

Try to review the content objectively and ask if your site’s product reviews:

  • Express expert knowledge about products where appropriate?
  • Show what the product is like physically, or how it is used, with unique content beyond what’s provided by the manufacturer?
  • Provide quantitative measurements about how a product measures up in various categories of performance?
  • Explain what sets a product apart from its competitors?
  • Cover comparable products to consider, or explain which products might be best for certain uses or circumstances?
  • Discuss the benefits and drawbacks of a particular product, based on research into it?
  • Describe how a product has evolved from previous models or releases to provide improvements, address issues, or otherwise help users in making a purchase decision?
  • Identify key decision-making factors for the product’s category and how the product performs in those areas? For example, a car review might determine that fuel economy, safety, and handling are key decision-making factors and rate performance in those areas.
  • Describe key choices in how a product has been designed and their effect on the users beyond what the manufacturer says?

It seems like Google will pay close attention to whether a review offers information that goes beyond what the manufacturer provides. In other words, don’t go to a product page and rewrite what’s already on the web. We’ll likely learn more about this Google Product Reviews Algorithm Update over time as it continues to roll out.

Facebook Launch New Features to Help Users Celebrate Ramadan 2021

Celebrate Ramadan The #MonthofGood

Facebook has announced a range of new tools to help users celebrate Ramadan, which will once again be impacted by COVID-19 restrictions around the world. Ramadan is a month-long celebration, which more than 2 billion people will observe around the world. And with many still unable to be physically together for the event, features on social apps take on increased significance in facilitating connection and celebration.

As per Facebook Statment:

“Last year, our community exchanged more than 20 million “Happy Ramadan” and “Celebrate Ramadan” posts and comments on Facebook, and WhatsApp video calls spiked on the first day of Eid. Despite the barriers to coming together in person, Ramadan remains a time for generosity, charity, and reflection. In 2020, people contributed twice as much to Ramadan-related fundraisers than they did in 2019 across Facebook and Instagram.”

How To Celebrate Ramadan?

Facebook has launched a new guide to help people Celebrate Ramadan, with 30 ideas for Facebook’s #MonthofGood initiative.

Facebook Celebrate Ramadan 2021

The #MonthofGood

Facebook will also be collaborating with creators, publishers, and NGOs throughout the month to highlight those that are making a positive impact in their communities, while Facebook’s also hosting new video content and information sessions linked into the #MonthofGood theme.

“On Facebook, UK-based director Basma Khalifa will host a video series to celebrate today’s changemakers and small businesses in the Muslim community. Also, Teen Vogue Director of Fashion and Beauty Features Tahirah Hairston will moderate a panel about modesty in Western culture and inclusion within the fashion industry.”

Facebook’s also adding themed stickers in Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp, along with camera effects, and new tools in Messenger and Messenger Kids.

Hopefully, as the vaccine push ramps up around the world, this will be the last year of COVID-19 impacted celebrations around the event, and next year can mark a new beginning of Celebrate Ramadan in 2021 and the #MonthofGood theme. Don’t forget to use the hashtag #MonthofGood to help build solidarity in spreading kindness.

I also wish our community a very Happy Ramadan 2021. Let’s Celebrate the Month of Good.

Facebook Testing QR Codes Feature for Online Payments in US

Facebook Launching A New Funds Transfer Tool in the US

According to Mac Rumors reported, Facebook is currently testing out this new QR Codes Feature for Facebook Pay, which would enable users to scan a friend or family member’s QR code, and instantly transfer funds. It could open the door for a new push, with Facebook currently experimenting with a new process that would enable users to transfer funds via personal QR codes in the app.

Facebook QR Codes Feature:

The QR code feature, similar to Venmo’s QR codes and others, will allow a user to scan a friend’s code with their smartphone’s camera to send or request money, while the sharable payment links will let you publish your payment address outside of Facebook itself.

As per Facebook given a statement to TechCrunch, “To make payments on Messenger even easier, we’ve begun testing the ability for people to use QR codes and payment links when they want to send or request money.”

The screen that displays the QR code also introduces the personalized payment URL in the format of “https://m.me/pay/UserName,” which can also be sent to others when you’re making a payment or sending a request.

Facebook QR Codes

The test is limited to US users at this time, but it could make payment transfers more convenient, while the newfound acceptance of QR Codes could see people more open to the option, which may, once again, pave the way for new opportunities via scannable codes.

Facebook declined to share further details about the test, including how many or what percentage of users will see the new QR code and links or when tests began and when they’ll end. It seems to all fit. We’ll have to wait and see what Facebook does with this new push.

FLoC is coming soon in Google Chrome

Google Begin Testing FLoC (Federated Learning of Cohorts) in Chrome

Google announced it has begun testing FLoC, Federated Learning of Cohorts, in Chrome. Specifically, the FLoC origin trial in Chrome 89 will work on websites that don’t opt-out of it. Google said that the initial testing of FLoC is taking place with a small percentage of users in Australia, Brazil, Canada, India, Indonesia, Japan, Mexico, New Zealand, Philippines, and the U.S. Google also said that it will expand to other regions as the trial expands globally.

What is FLoC?

FLoC is a method for browsers to enable interest-based advertising. It works by gathering data about a user’s browsing habits and then clustering groups of users with similar interests into cohorts. The algorithm used to develop those cohorts may look at the URLs of sites that the user visited and the content of those pages, among other factors, according to the FLoC proposal on GitHub. Information about the cohort is then shared for advertising purposes.

What is FLoCAccording to Google statement “a new piece of web technology – Federated Learning of Cohorts – will start to roll out as a developer origin trial in Chrome. Keeping in mind the importance of “and,” FLoC is a new approach to interest-based advertising that both improves privacy and gives publishers a tool they need for viable advertising business models. Federated Learning of Cohorts is still in development and we expect it to evolve based on input from the web community and learnings from this initial trial.”

Why Do We Need FLoC?

Many businesses rely on advertising to drive traffic to their sites, and many publisher websites fund content by selling advertising inventory. People generally prefer to see ads that are relevant and useful to them, and relevant ads also bring more business to advertisers and more revenue to the websites that host them. In other words, ad space is more valuable when it displays relevant ads. Thus, selecting relevant ads increases revenue for ad-supported websites. That, in turn, means that relevant ads help fund content creation that benefits users.

How Does Federated Learning of Cohorts Works?

The example below describes the different roles in selecting an ad using FLoC.

Google Testing FLoC in Chrome

Google has announced that it expects to start testing Federated Learning of Cohorts-based cohorts with advertisers beginning in Q2 of this year. There are more details on how this works over here.

How To Optimize Your LinkedIn Profile To Find Digital Marketing Jobs

Learn tips and tricks for how to find a digital marketing job through LinkedIn.

There is no doubt that due to COVID-19, Digital Marketing Professionals are a hot commodity. In fact, a recent study by LinkedIn shows that digital marketing is one of the top 10 most in-demand jobs worldwide.

So as a Professional Digital Marketer, I decided to dig deep and, using LinkedIn Job Search Navigator, and found that there is a big demand for digital marketing and especially Search Engine Optimizers and PPC Experts as compared to other online marketing jobs.

While there are plenty of places aside from LinkedIn that you might apply for a job or be recruited (including company job boards, classifieds, and other job listing sites), nearly every recruiter or hiring manager will check out your LinkedIn Profile at some point during the hiring process.

Optimize LinkedIn Profile

LinkedIn is the best place to highlight your accomplishments, experiences, and personal brand. Optimizing your LinkedIn profile takes more than just uploading your resume and adding a few accomplishments, though. It requires proper thought in terms of how you structure your profile and the use of the right tools and keywords to optimize your profile.

You need to demonstrate to the potential employer that you are a good fit and stand out from the thousands of other digital marketer profiles. In this blog post, I am going to share the best practices for how to optimize your LinkedIn profile to find a digital marketing job.

LinkedIn Profile Photo and Background

Remember that your LinkedIn profile represents you as a professional. Use a neutral profile picture with a plain background. The picture should only include you; leave your significant other or friends out of the shot.

The background (the image you can put at the very top of your profile) picture should be something related to your industry or hobbies. Use this space to highlight what you are passionate about.

LinkedIn Headline

Customize your LinkedIn headline based on the types of roles you’re seeking and your relevant experience. Highlight results-based specifics, where possible, such as: “Led a team of 8 digital marketers to improve retention by 25% annually.”

For example, a solid digital marketer’s headline could be: “Digital marketer with 5+ years of experience building paid & organic strategies through SEO, SEM, and Email Marketing.”

Complete Your Profile

LinkedIn gives complete profiles more visibility than incomplete ones, so this is a step you don’t want to miss. Fill out all sections in your profile, including:

  • Name
  • Location
  • Industry
  • Contact Information
  • Skills and Endorsements
  • Current Jobs
  • Experiences
  • Accomplishments
  • Interests

Do Not Leave Your Current Job Field Blank

One of the critical parameters in the LinkedIn search algorithm is your current job position. Therefore, do not leave this field empty.  Even if you are unemployed, add something that you are currently working on such as a volunteer role helping someone with digital marketing. Keep in mind that your current job is also the default headline if you haven’t created one.

Select the Right Keywords

Your LinkedIn profile is searchable, so make sure that the terms recruiters generally use to search for professionals like you are on your LinkedIn summary page. Example: For digital marketing jobs, include keywords such as “Digital Marketer,” “SEO,” etc.

Don’t overdo it, as hiring managers and recruiters will be turned off by spammy profiles. Use your primary keywords and only add synonyms when they are appropriate.

Showcase Your Skills, Talent, & Achievements

One of the best features of LinkedIn is that you can showcase links, media, articles to your work directly in the About section. If you have been featured in a magazine or video, you can highlight this. You can share links to your works and completed projects, too. A good portfolio of completed works/projects helps recruiters understand your unique skills and experience.

For example, if you helped a company improve sales with SEO, you could share that, “SEO for example.com improved the visibility of their products on Google, resulting in a 15% increase in sales.”

Add Certifications, Licenses, Experiences

LinkedIn is a unique platform where you can not only list your qualifications, certifications, and licenses but tell the story of your learning and experiences, as well. Google has a handful of certifications, too, which look great on your LinkedIn and are worthwhile simply for the knowledge you’ll gain while studying for the tests.

Posting on LinkedIn

Apart from the above best practices for optimizing your LinkedIn profile, you’ll want to regularly post updates related to digital marketing to increase your visibility on the network. Try sharing your perspective on a project you’ve executed, a summary on new developments in online marketing, or opinions you have about digital marketing news and events.

Summary

Every LinkedIn profile can be optimized! You just need to pay some attention to the details and be thoughtful about what recruiters and the companies you want to work with are looking for in their digital marketing hires.

Facebook Analytics Will Be Not Available After June 30, 2021

The Analytics Tool Is Going To Shutdown on June 30

Facebook Analytics will stop being accessible after June 30, 2021, which gives marketers less than three months to export their data and find other solutions. The announcement was secretly published in the Business Help Center post. If you navigate to “analytics.facebook.com” it will redirects users to the announcement, which said that:

“The Analytics Tool will no longer be available after June 30, 2021. Until then, you will still be able to access reports, export charts and tables, and explore insights. To export data into a CSV file from Analytics Tool on your desktop, click the arrow in the top-right corner of each chart or table.”

What is Facebook Analytics?

Facebook Analytics is used to collect the data from a Facebook page with data from the Facebook pixel. When the data is connected, Analytics can show a conversion path between a customer engaging with a business’s content and eventually making a purchase off of Facebook.

The company did not mention any reason for the closer of the Analytics Tool. Facebook points users to the following business tools to use after Analytics is removed:

Facebook Business Suite: Allows users to manage their Facebook and Instagram business accounts. Offers detailed insights about a business’s audience, content, and trends (but is not available to everyone).

Ads Manager: Lets businesses view, make changes, and see results for Facebook campaigns and ads.

Events Manager: Can help users set up and manage Facebook business tools like the Facebook pixel and Conversions API. Also reports on actions taken on a business’s website, app, and physical store.

While the latest news seems frightening to many marketers, Facebook has been losing momentum for quite some while. Facebook has lofty goals to make Business Suite the only interface businesses need to manage their activity on Facebook, Instagram, and Messenger.
